How to get ready to play golf in the fall

Pro tips by Hugo Bernard, professional golfer

With Fall upon us, many golf enthusiasts are looking to extend their season before putting away their clubs for the winter. This season is definitely one of the most heavenly to play golf because of the beautiful colour scheme. However, with the leaves turning also comes the temperature change.

With that in mind, I would like to offer you 3 tips that I have learned during my golfing journey that will help you improve your game and have more fun.

First of all, it is essential to have a good stretching and body activation session before your tee time. Muscles are tenser and less flexible in the cold. Take the opportunity to stretch for a good 15 minutes before any golf movement.

Then, dress appropriately. I often see amateurs arrive with a heavy coat when the weather is colder. Over time, I quickly realized that I could swing more freely by wearing 3-4 thin layers such as thermal underwear, a t-shirt, a polo shirt and a light jacket. You'll see; the multi-layer system will allow you to move more freely instead of being restricted in your heavy coat.

Finally, have fun! Fall means the end of the golf season, so if you hit your ball into the leaves and can't find it, don't stress. Just put a new one in the spot where you think it fell (no punishment) and keep having fun.

To all of you, good golf!
